Big lake! HO...

What do you do when you are leaving for Ethiopia in 10 days to pick up your two new daughters...GO TO BIG LAKE! It's true, we have about 300 things to do, like clean for the cleaning lady, pack, finish making cookies/dinners to freeze, go to Sam's Club to get the special: "if I have these toothbrushes I will share with Abebech and Amenech...I promise i will share...PLEASE!!!", you all know she is not going to share! Go through clothes that are too small, organize the girls clothes...I could go on and on.

So, we pack up and go to BIG LAKE! Everyone ate their sandwich, apple and trail mix in the car and I remembered why we are going on this crazy (your words not mine) adventure. I watched the kids playing in the water, yelling about this being the best day ever, swimming until their lips turned blue. Then they changed their clothes in the van (we all do it!)...it was so nice to just hang...since the cleaning lady is coming while we're gone...I think we should do one or two more Big Lake trips and then get a McFlurry (don't judge), to remember why you have these little monsters to begin with.

making stuff/wasting time

So, I wanted to finish up my sewing projects that I have promised folks and to make some diapers to take to Addis. This little "finishing" project was suppose to only take a few hours on Friday morning then I couldn get back into the groove of cleaning the house before the cleaning woman comes on Tues (that there is a whole different story...). Ok, back to the few little sewing projects, oh yeah, Kayleigh is kind enough to help me out in the sewing room....think about it. And I end up making the following:
24 diaper liners
24 flannel wipes
2 wet bags withdrawstrings
1 dress for Kayleigh
1 dress for Stella
1 skirt for Kayleigh
trip to fabric store to get more fabric for another skirt for Kayleigh (I don't now how this happen...we also got orange drinks at McDonalds...she is good!)
2 blankets one side flannel/one side terry cloth with ribbon ties for Abebech and Amenech
elastic straps for Reid's sleeping bag so it could be worn as a backpack to go on an adventure that he could not tell me the details of because it was a, "mission for super heros, and mom, your not one" thanks Beidy!
finish a doll that was missing a head (from 3 yrs ago!)
and
make a pattern for toddler backpacks I am making to take to Addis for Abebech and Amenech
4 new vinyl placemats (Reid made two and Kayleigh made 2)
Kayleigh make herself a purse and Reid a European carry-all!
Both kids got to make bobbins and learn how to thread the machine.
Both kids got to use the serger..."MOM!!! it's going CRAZY....HELP", screams Reid..."Reid lift your foot UP", says mom..."OH, THANKS MOM", says Reid in his low-deep-big guy voice
Delivered dinner and goodies to a friend who just had a 11lb baby boy at HOME!! as in HOME BIRTH...she needed a "winner winner chixn dinner".

Needless to say it is Sunday.
And I still have to clean for the cleaning woman on Tues....

Smell

When you have little kids there is this constant counting. Are you all here? One, two, three. Does everyone have shoes? One, two, three, four, five, six. Does everyone have their cups for the car? one, two...oh shit.

That is where the smell was coming from...sorry Telle, we thought it was you.

OMG we're going to Africa!

Yes, I just realized it!
Adoption is different from being preggers (I know I am guessing here since I have never been). Anyhoo, when you are adopting it is like you're in a fog, filling out paperwork, having strangers look through all your financial information, background checks on a state and federal level, fingerprints, asking people to write reference letters, and waiting, waiting, waiting...

Well, our wait is almost over and it feels unreal...like we will wake up tomorrow and it will have been a dream and life will be in black and white again, just like the movie Wizard of Oz. Well, I am going to have a gin and tonic and hope tomorrow brings the brightest blue skies, green leaves and vivid flowers and my three little munchkins will be here drawing pictures for their two sisters who are waiting for them in a far off land, over the rainbow.

I didn't know...really.

I really didn't know that the variety pack of cereal...you know the one that you would take camping as kids. The one that has the little individual boxes of cereal. I really did not know it was pure EVIL! Here's how it went down.
I let the kids get the big variety pack of cereal to take to Grandma's in two weeks (this part seem normal). They somehow, in my weaken state talked me into letting them open it yesterday (still normal). Unknown to me the makers of said cereal variety pack had unleashed a Panodora's box of sugar induced insanity through the land (ok, only in the kitchen). Those "managers" at the cereal plant...how can I say this...put an ODD number of particular cereals in the big o' box!!! This fine if you have one kid, but Reid was willing to sell Stella to a band of travelling cereal men for another box of Satan's Crunch (ie Corn POPS).
Now that they have tasted the EVIL, they are able to locate the boxes anywhere...like a good o'English Pointer finding a quail.
I may have to hide the boxes down in Jean's trailer. In the morning she would find a yard full of big eyed children chanting, "Apple jacks...Apple Jacks...Apple Jacks", in dirty jammies.
Honestly I didn't know...really.

Why can't I have OCD for two weeks??

The list of crap that needs to be done before we leave on the 23rd is quite massive and daunting! So, I tried to will myself into having OCD and to be ultra organized, but it has yet to work. DRAT!
All I seem to be able to do lately is send odd emails to our worker in Oregon, read and be freaked out by attachment issues that we may or may not run into, feed my kids "take away" food and make more lists. Lists are my life now, lists for each child at home to take to Grandma's, lists for donation, lists for both kevin and I, lists of item needed for the girls, lists, lists, list. Faith.

That being said what I need from you out there in the word of the computer...send me vibes to give me super powers of the OCD variety for 2 weeks...that is the rub, two weeks only please. Also, does anyone have a huge suitcase or two we may borrow? I can not promise it will be returned unharmed...we are going to Africa after all.

I can't believe I am doing this!

Ok, here we go! The reason I am doing this little "blog" is for family and friends. To keep you, those near and dear...ok, some not so near and some not so dear (you know who you are!), up to date with our most recent adoption adventure and the crazy sh** my kids say/do on a daily basis.

Before anyone says anything, i know there are blogs out there about cheese colors and the average size of a peach pit, it can be hard to keep up on all the data. So, please don't stress and feel you need to keep up this one too. Life it too short.
